The Center for Peace Studies and Development of the University was created on recommendation after a workshop on peace culture in cooperation between The Government and UNESCO. The Center opened in 1996 to be an institution for training in the field of peace and conflict resolution.

 

The Objectives

 

- To develop studies and scientific research in the areas of conflict resolution, refugees and displaced people and the condition of women and children, and the elderly during war periods.

- To disseminate information on peace and conflict resolution to the local population as well as the Nation.

- To organize programs of conflict resolutions working to achieve peace.

- To encourage scientific cooperation with institutions concerned with peace both in and outside of the town.

- To organize lectures and symposia discussions, workshops on local and national interests and issues.

-                     To document the peace process and establish a library and an electronic 'peace archive'.

-                     To provide consultants to be able to work on a practical and academic level in the field of peace building.

 

 

Administrative Structure

 

The Director of the Center is Nazar Mohammed Masha. The Assistant Director and Program Coordinator is Abda lla Mohammed Abd Alla.
