Presidential Decree number
65 of 1994 stipulated the merging of teacher training
institutes into universities. Efforts were also to be
made to upgrade the graduates' abilities in order to
enable them to teach efficiently in basic level
education. The Institute of Teachers in Dalang was
incorporated into the University of Dalang to realize
this objective.
Objectives of the Faculty
of Teachers
1.
Training students and teachers of basic level
education. They are also to be taught special
educational methods and to be prepared scientifically,
educationally and technically to work in basic school
and other educational institutes such as kindergartens
and special purposes education.

To enable the
students to participate effectively in syllabus
development and methods of teaching in order to promote
the teaching profession.
2.
To supply
students with knowledge and skills, as well as values
and spiritual ideals and patriotism. They will be able
then to integrate these with their work.
3.
To upgrade the
competency of teachers, administrators and
educationalists in Sudan. They are trained during the
service to a standard at which they can attain the
teaching qualification or a certificate of training.
4.
To be aware of
local issues and to be part of the development of local
communities. To be aware of human as well as
environmental issues.
5.
To be able to
act as technical consultants and provide appropriate
educational services.
6.
To carry out
researches, both theoretical academic studies and
applied work, with the objective being development of
thinking and practice in education.

Teaching staff, assistant
lectures and technicians include seven Ph.D. holders,
twelve lecturers, four Teaching Assistants and four
Senior Lecturers.
Faculty Admission
Procedure
The prerequisite for
admission into the faculty is a secondary school
certificate through national admission administration in
the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific
Research. The faculty also admits students directly from
the Ministry of Education (special admission) in South
Kordofan state with coordination between the Secretary
of Scientific Affairs in the University and the National
Admission Administration.
Scientific programs
The faculty grants B.Sc.
in Basic Education in the following groups:
(a) Arabic language and
Islamic studies
(b) History and Arabic
Language.
(c) Geography and English
Language.
(d) Sciences and
Mathematics.
